KUCHING: SMK Green Road Softball Club held a softball clinic at SK Green Road recently which attracted the attendance of 141 pupils from the school.

The clinic was conducted by SMK Green Road Softball Club technical advisor Juraimie Junaidi, Aliyah Qamarina and Augustine Anding with the assistance of five players from the club, Nur Syazwanniza Razali and Nur Nazurah Untong (Girls U18), Mohd Fadhli Asri Effendy, Abang Ismad Syahmi and Izzat Zulfakhri (Boys U15).

It was aimed at introducing softball to the pupils, developing a relationship between the players as well as enhancing ties between the two schools.

In an earlier discussion, SMK Green Road Softball Club, also known as the ‘Hornets’, agreed to share their expertise to form a team in SK Green Road with the aim of fielding teams in next year’s MSSR Kuching U12 Softball championship.

Juraimie, also teacher in charge of softball at SMK Green Road, said the close cooperation between both schools is seen as a win-win situation because SMK Green Road is helping SK Green Road to develop softball at primary school level and when the pupils join SMK Green Road, they will be the pool base for the U15 teams.

“This in term will save the coaches much time and efforts in developing a team from scratch among the form one students. We also need to put in more effort to ensure our teams can maintain their excellence in softball at divisional and state levels,” he said.

Juraimie recorded the club’s appreciation to SK Green Road headmaster Awang Kasim Awang Hosin for taking a pro-active approach and expanding the co-curriculum aspects for his pupils by accepting softball as one of the sports in his school.

“We are more than willing to share our knowledge and skills in the sport with SK Green Road and what we are doing is also in line with the Education Ministry’s policy of 1Student 1Sport in all schools,” he added.
