KOTA KINABALU: A few months ago, strong winds blew the roof off of Nurhaibah’s home in Kampung Dunggang, Tuaran, during which her toddler Nurhasyikin Jainuddin was swept away in her cradle, injuring her in the process.

When Maxis spotted the news in the media, the telco decided to step in and help out.

Working with contractors, Maxis helped to refurbish her home by reinforcing beams, pillars, roof framework and underside footing and painting.

The work took a few months to complete as it was hampered by bad weather.

Maxis got their regional team together and coordinated the effort. The team also helped to clean the surrounding areas of the house by organising a ‘Gotong Royong’ session and the family was able to move in to the refurbished home last month.

“It was a random act on our part and we decided to make a small contribution to this unfortunate family. It was the least that we could do for someone in need.

“We are very happy that we were able to refurbish her home so that they could continue with life,” said Melvin Jeffrine Mojinun, Maxis’ Head of Sales, Sabah.

“We are very grateful for the assistance extended to us, and would like sincerely thank Maxis for helping to refurbish our home,” said Nurhaibah.
