KUCHING: The two suspects of the robbery-rape case at a childcare centre in Taman Monah in Petra Jaya two weeks ago would be further remanded for six days for gang robbery.

Magistrate Portia Tham allowed the remand application on the two suspects until Nov 22 to enable police complete their investigations. The youths, aged 20 and 21 from Kampung Tupong Ulu and Kampung Tupong Ulu Jaya, respectively, were initially remanded for seven days beginning Nov 9 for the gang rape that they allegedly committed on Nov 6.

The remand expired on Sunday and they were subsequently re-arrested for further investigation on gang robbery. It is reported that on Nov 6 around 1am, the two entered the childcare centre and stole a mobile phone, a gold chain, some cash, a CD player and a television.

They allegedly took turns to rape a 19-year-old assistant who lived in the premises, before fleeing off.

Both were arrested two days after a police report was lodged. The rape case is investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code, while the robbery charge is under Section 395/397 of the same Code. Lawyer Lim Lian Kee represented the accused.
