57 judokas to slam it out

KUCHING: Fifty-seven judokas representing five teams will be vying for top honours in the Sarawak Invitational Inter Club Judo Championship at Chung Hua Middle School No. 3 school hall this weekend.

They are Sarawak Judo Association (SJA), Chung Hua Middle School No.1, UiTm, Swinburne University and ITBU Judo Club of Kuala Lumpur.

Sarawak Judo Association (SJA) secretary Nyam Sze Yuang said the response to the competition was encouraging and it would a good platform for judokas to gauge their skills and also enhance ties between judo clubs and associations in Malaysia.

SJA are banking on fielding five judokas, namely Ting Sing Chuen, Ting Ze Kui, Samuel Lau, Jordan Yu and Ian Chia and Nyam.

The two-day competition, which is divided into five categories of Boys/Girls Mix Age 7-9, Age 10-12, Age 13-15, Age 16-18 and Open, will follow IJF/JUA rules and regulations.

Weight categories for the Open are 55kg and below, Above 55kg-60kg, Above 60kg-66kg, Above 66kg-73kg, Above 73kg-81kg, Above 81kg-90kg, Above 90kg-100kg and Above 100kg.

Meanwhile, seven Licence A referees, including two from Sabah, will be attending the National Level I Referee course at Chung Hua Middle School No. 3 today and tomorrow.

The course will be conducted by 5th Dan Black Belt holder Lee Wing Fook from the Malaysian JA.

Lee is South-east Asia Referee chairman and Malaysia Referee chairman as well as a world referee.
