MIRI: The Warrior Hockey Club (WHC) will be sending its women team to participate in a Dec 10-13 hockey tournament to be held in Penang, in conjunction with Penang Festival.

Miri hockey coach Rudy Naziri said the nine-strong team is buoyed by only one experienced player.

“Only Charlena Lawing has played in this event in previous years while the rest will get exposure in terms of playing experience in events outside Miri,” he said.

He added that the international-level tournament in Penang is a good platform for players to acquire more skills.

“WHC have been taking part in the Penang Festival hockey competition for three years now and the best result we had was making the quarterfinals in 2014.

“This year, the majority of our players are under-15 and this event will be a good exposure.

“It will give them the feel of playing in international events, apart from watching other skilful players,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
