Banjarmasin water police investigates birds smuggling

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: The head of Banjarmasin water police (Satpolair) AKP UntungWidodo said that the issue of birds smuggling of in the waters of the capital now under investigation, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“The issue of smuggling of birds through the waters of Banjarmasin now widely discussed, we act on it to conduct an investigation,” he said here on Wednesday.

According to him, Satpolair personnel keep on standby, watch and hear, while vigorously patrol and inspect water transport considered suspicious. One aim is to follow up this issue.

“So far the case has not been found yet, but we continue to conduct surveillance, not to let anyone dare to break the law through the waters of our region,” he said.

Banjarmasin which has strategic waters in the economy and business, said Untung, very prone to crimes infiltration such as smuggling of endangered species from the province to the island of Java.

“Our waters is directly connected to the ocean where many ships sailed to Surabaya and other destinations,” he said.

According to him, birds suspected of being smuggled one of which is parrot, and Satpolair continues to probe.

“Not only animal smuggling, we also alert to narcotics trafficking,” he said.
