KUCHING: The Chinese community in Sematan Town and Kampung Sebandi Hulu in Lundu district have received letters of authority to form 1Malaysia Community (K1M).

Lundu Information Officer Sariddin Kederi said the formation of K1M is in line with the Information Department’s transformation which focuses on the 1Malaysia Policy, the brainchild of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

There are over 1,000 K1M in Malaysia with 234 units in Sarawak with at least two units in each district.

“K1M is a voluntary body for various races formed by the Information Department to foster unity values to realise the nation’s aspiration.

“Now Lundu has five K1M, Kampung Stunggang Melayu, Kampung Serayan Hulu, Kampung Sebandi Hulu, Kampung Tanah Hitam and Sematan Town,” he said at the handing over ceremony at Lundu Information Office yesterday.

Also present were community leaders Penghulu Haji Ibrahim @Bentani, Penghulu Haji Mahyan Suaidi and Pemanca Lo Sin Li.
