KUCHING: At least two more women candidates will be fielded by the Barisan Nasional in the next state election in the 11 new seats, proposed by EC and awaiting endorsement by Parliament.

In answer to a question during the Forum Belia Tegas closing ceremony today (Nov 21), Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem commented that he wished to see more women participate in the state’s development as elected representatives.

“We currently have four BN assemblywomen. I believe women contribute significantly to the state’s development and more,” he added.

Should the Sarawak BN field two new woman candidates, they will join the ranks of assemblywomen such as Datuk Fatimah Abdullah (Dalat), Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali (Semariang), Simoi Peri (Lingga) and Rosey Yunus (Bekenu).

“Anybody who is eager to see more assemblywoman in the state must hope that they win in the next state election. All this will be just talk if they do not win in the next state election,” he said.

The 11 proposed new proposed state seats are Gedong, Kabong, Telian, Stakan, Selirik, Samalaju, Murum, Long Lama, Serumbu, Triboh, and Batu Kitang.
