KUCHING: Eccentric figure Abdul Rani Kulup, the president of Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah Malaysia (MJMM), was spotted by passengers on an inbound AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching today (Nov 23).

He landed at Kuching International Airport (KIA) at 6.05pm dressed in his MJMM uniform, sporting his red beret and a dragon-headed staff.

Abdul Rani, who was travelling in a group, told a curious passenger, 34-year-old teacher Irwin Cartland, that he was in Sarawak to meet up with friends.

It is not known whether the army veteran has official business here.

Abdul Rani first made headlines when he threatened to punch anybody who was critical of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He is known for lodging numerous police reports against activists and opposition leaders.

In May, he was reported saying that he had lodged up to 1,000 complaints since 2011 and declared he was proud of it.

The burly man, who is never seen in public without his trademark sunglasses, also participated in the “red shirt rally” on Sept 16.

MJMM is known for its anti-liberal stance and had, in the past, urged the authorities to punish activists and opposition leaders critical of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
