KEPALA BATAS: Penang PAS wants all its remaining 1,083 Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) members in the state to quit their posts.

State PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusof said a notice to the effect would be issued soon and that all those involved must abide by it.

“We are taking this decision to pull out all our members from the JKKKs irrespective whether they are there on DAP or PKR quotas. All have agreed to quit.

“We will not allow our members to make up the quotas of PKR and DAP in JKKKs in Penang,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

The move comes in the wake of the DAP-led government firing 300 JKKK members from PAS who are holding the posts under PAS’s quota.

On Thursday, PAS had announced that the party would no longer be part of the state goverment but in the opposition.

The Pakatan Rakyat government in Penang made up of DAP, PKR and PAS is in its second term but there has been a massive fallout between the secular-based DAP and PAS, an Islamic party.

On another matter, Muhammad Fauzi said the status of Datuk Mohd Salleh Man, its sole assemblyman in the 40-seat Penang state assembly, would be decided by PAS’s central leadership.

At the assembly’s sitting on Friday, the Permatang Pasir assemblyman was still seated among the backbenchers.

He is also the president of the Penang Islamic Religous Council, which is a political appointment. — Bernama
