KUCHING: Muhammad Faris Jonathan Jalin competed in the recent ‘Battle of Freaks (BOF) 2015’ in Kuala Lumpur to pit himself against other physique athletes from all across Asia.

The experience was made sweeter when the Kuching-born bodybuilder won the Men’s Physique (above 170cm) category, beating fellow countryman Ahmad Syakir Jamil and Iran’s Reza Khodami for the title.

“I have been involved in bodybuilding for five years now,” Faris said as he reflected after his win. But he only turned competitive last year. And he had a good start by finishing second in ‘Man of Steel—Physique’. After that, he topped the Above-170cm category in Mr Enrich 2014, which also earned him the overall championship title that year.

“This year, I’m so happy to have a great run, beginning with my wins at Mr Alimbudin Classic, Mr Pelikat and BOF, before capping it off with the Above-170cm title at Selangor Strongest Man 2015 last night (Saturday),” the 32-year-old Iban told The Borneo Post.

However, Faris said the BOF remained a significant benchmark for him as he set his eyes on more regional titles.

“I believe that I have the confidence now — I would like to embark on this next year. “For now, I think I need a break after a very busy year,” he added.

Faris also has plans to compete in Sarawak soon. But no dates have been given so far.

“I need to keep them as a surprise first,” he smiled.
