The ship named Galaxy was expected to start its service at the end of this month, providing two return trips daily between mainland Sabah and the federal territory island.

Galaxy, which can carry up to 88 vehicles and 356 passengers at any one time, will leave from Menumbok at 6am and 11.30am daily.

The daily trip from Labuan will be at 8.30 am and 6.30pm.

The new ferry built in Sarawak will take about 90 minutes for each of its four daily trips.

The company said the commissioning of the new ship was timely to meet the increasing demand of commuters during the school holidays and the coming Christmas holidays.
