100 scouts accompany President plant one million trees

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Chairman of Regional Scout Kwartir South Kalimantan HM Rosehan NB said as many as one hundred scouts will accompany President Joko Widodo in initiating movement of planting a million trees, which nationally starting in the province, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

“Movement of planting a million trees begins in Forest Park (Tahura) Sultan Adam in South Kalimantan scheduled for 27 November 2015,” he told reporters in Banjarmasin on Tuesday.

But, continued the former Deputy Governor of South Kalimantan, the arrival of the President to the province planned to only do the initial planting of a million trees in 2015.

Regarding other activities of President Joko Widodo in South Kalimantan, he said did not know for sure, because it is the domain of the provincial government, which gets back up protection of military and police.

“We expect the arrival of President Joko Widodo this time further adds to the progress of development, including efforts to conserve natural resources through environmental improvement by planting a million trees,” said member of South Kalimantan DPRD from the PDIP.

“Moreover Tahura Sultan Adam which covers an area of Banjarbaru, Banjar and Tanah Laut is a water catchment area, particularly in watersheds (DAS) Riam Kanan,” he continued.

While multi function Riam Kanan dam lies at the DAS which upstream in Meratus Mountains. Here we have hydropower (PLTA) Ir Pangeran Mohammad Noor, as well as agricultural irrigation.

In addition, it becomes the source of raw water for the regional taps water company (PDAM) Bandarmasih Banjarmasin, and Intan Banjar who serves fresh water for the needs of the population of Banjarbaru and Banjar.
