KUCHING: A drug addict was arrested on Monday for breaking into a house at Kampung Taee, Serian.

State CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said the 31-year-old unemployed man, who is from the same village, was picked up at his house by a police team from Serian following the incident last week.

“Acting on information received, a team from Serian district police headquarters, led by Sub-Inspector John Berma, raided the suspect’s house at 8.25pm and recovered all of the stolen items in his bedroom,” he said in a statement issued yesterday.

“The suspect has admitted to committing the housebreaking and theft and had used a van to transport the stolen items.”

Dev revealed that the incident took place at around 3pm on Nov 19, when the suspect entered the house by breaking the lock of the kitchen door at the rear before carting away RM8,000 worth of electrical items such as a 46-inch flat screen television, home theatre set, disc player, chainsaw, vacuum cleaner and several other goods.

He also said police believe the drug addict is responsible for many other similar cases in Serian and neighbouring districts.

“I congratulate the CID and Narcotic branch of Serian district police headquarters for jointly working on this case and arresting the suspect.”
