PUTRAJAYA: The Social Welfare Department (JKM) will distribute 15,000 Mobile Flexible Partition (Mopar) units that will create an individual private space for flood victims at relief centres as part of its preparations to face floods.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said the distribution of the Mopar units to all relief centres nationwide was expected to be completed by Dec 1.

“Mopar will enable a large room, such as a hall or indoor stadium to be divided into smaller spaces for sleeping, praying, breastfeeding, health examination, medical treatment or patient isolation and will ease the tasks for the officer in charge to monitor flood victims,” she told reporters here yesterday.

Rohani said Mopar, which is an innovation jointly developed by JKM and the Malaysian Technology Park, had won the JKM Social Innovation Award 2014, and also the bronze medal at the 43rd International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva in April this year.

The exhibition was participated by 752 exhibitors from 48 countries with over 1,000 innovative products. Meanwhile, the minister said 5,258 JKM volunteers had undergone flood simulation training and now prepared to be deployed to help in flood operations.

“A total of 6,648 JKM staff had also undergone the simulation training, with 164 counselors fully prepared to offer their services at relief centres,” she said.

Earlier, Rohani launched the JKM Innovation Day 2015 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre here.

At the event, Terengganu JKM was also named as the overall winner of the JKM Innovation Award. — Bernama
