Labour laws undergoing comprehensive review

THE Ministry of Human Resources is conducting a comprehensive review of labour laws in the country, including the Trade Unions Act 1959.

In a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat, the ministry also stated that laws relating to employment were subject to the same so that they were in keeping with the times.

The ministry said several discussion sessions involving stakeholders were held since May this year with the aim of making the labour market more felixible.

“One of the things being looked into is to make employment contracts more dynamic,” the ministry said in reply to a question from Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid (PKR-Kuala Langat).

The ministry added that the review would take time as it had to take into consideration various aspects, including Convention 87(C87) of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) which among others govern rights to unionise and industrial relations. — Bernama
