Set aside differences, give flood victims top priority — Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Leaders and agencies involved in managing floods have been reminded to set aside differences in ideology and authority to ensure the management of floods is carried out smoothly and systematically.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the move was necessary to ensure the welfare of flood victims was given top priority during this challenging times.

“The old thinking of power and authority among us should stop…the important thing is the federal government, state and local authorities should sit together to find ways to resolve problems.

“I do not want the difference in opinion and power struggle result in flood victims neglected based on human action.

Their fate and welfare should be given top priority,” he said at a Briefing Cum Flood Disaster Management Plan Display for members of Parliament and district officers from all over the country here yesterday.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim and Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

On the RM500 financial aid proposed to be given earlier to flood victims, Ahmad Zahid said those registered as high risk flood victim would be provided with cash assistance. — Bernama
