PENAMPANG: Upko Penampang wants the police to conduct an investigation into the motivess of Lembah Pantai MP, Nurul Izzah Anwar, meeting and taking pictures with Princess Jacel Kiram.

Jacel is the daughter of the late Jamalul Kiram III, the self-proclaimed Sultan of Sulu who was allegedly behind the armed intrusion at Tanduo Lahad Datu in 2013 during which 15 Malaysians and scores of the intruders were killed.

Pictures of Nurul Izzah and Jacel both holding a placard with the message ‘Free Anwar’ went viral on the social media and some who saw it had criticized Nurul Izzah, calling her insensitive to Malaysians whose family members had died in the intrusion.

Upko Penampang, through its information bureau, had lodged a report with the police here yesterday and urged the police to conduct an investigation into the motive of the two being photographed together. The report was lodged by the bureau’s chairman, Petrus Mojuntin.

“We want the police to find out if it was Nurul Izzah who had asked Jacel to hold the placard. We also urge the police to find out what is Jacel’s role in the Free Anwar campaign and if Nurul Izzah offered Jacel anything in return for supporting the campaign,” Petrus said.

He added that Upko Penampang’s information bureau also urges the relevant authorities to bar Nurul Izzah from entering Sabah because of her relationship with those involved in the Tanduo intrusion.

“Sabahans are worried about the state’s and country’s security, especially when an influential Malaysian leader has a relationship with an individual who threatens the Sabah’s sovereignty through its baseless claim on the state,” he said.
