Police testing driver’s urine in fatal accident probe

SIBU: The police have sent the urine sample of the driver of a sports car which was involved in an accident in front of St John’s Anglican Church that killed motorcyclist Ting Yew Kui on Monday for testing.

Sibu Deputy police chief Supt Martin Koo yesterday told the press that while waiting for the results the police were also recording statements from eyewitnesses.

Koo added that the police could not confirm claims that there were two persons in the black Porsche 911 car when the accident happened at 6.20pm as they were in the midst of their probe.

“We hope to get also the accounts of the eyewitnesses. Leave it to us. We shall thoroughly probe the case under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act – reckless driving that causes death.”

Media reports have so far only linked the driver of the sports car to the accident, with no mention of another passenger.

But, public members have been speculating there was a front seat passenger.

According to a reliable source, two air bags had burst, and townsfolk were debating on the possibility that two persons, including the driver and a front seat passenger, were in the car.

Netizens have also posted photographs of the sports car after the accident, showing both car doors were open after the driver left the scene.

This gave rise to the argument that two persons had got out of the car.

The police said the accident happened when both the sports car driven by a grandson of a corporate figure and motorcyclist Ting were heading towards the town.

They said the driver lost control and car, knocked down Ting, before both the car and Ting’s motorcycle slammed into the wall of St. John Anglican Church, bringing down the concrete fence.

Ting was killed instantly as he landed in the church’s compound.

Meanwhile, post mortem was conducted on Ting on Tuesday and his family buried him yesterday morning.

The 50-year-old was a mechanic of an oil palm plantation.

He was heading to Sing Kwong Supermarket next to the church when the accident occurred.

Ting leaves behind his wife, Ting Leh Ung, a teacher of SK Perbandaran No. 4, and a 10-year-old son.

Both the sports car and Ting’s motorcycle are in the police’s custody in Sungai Merah Police Station now.
