KUCHING: Sixteen enthusiastic coders participated in the Pre-Hackathon Bootcamp where they learned about mobile application development and web design among others.

It was conducted at ICOM Square from Nov 23-26.

Organised by iCube Innovation in partnership with Malaysian Global Innovation and Creative Centre (MaGIC), the bootcamp aimed to provide a platform for coders to learn programming tools and get updated on the latest (including front end, back end and mobile) technology in the industry.

The bootcamp was conducted by MaGIC mentor-in-residence Lau Cher Han.

Participants were exposed to HTML5, CSS3, JQuery, Ruby on Rails and IONIC for mobile application development.

“The Pre hackathon is to brush up on skills to get familiar with the technology out there,” said Lau.

“They learn the whole spectrum from web design to mobile app because this is the trend. Any idea can be turned into a website application or mobile application.”

Participants were a mix of beginners and those working in the industry to upgrade or update skills and refresh basic knowledge, said iCube’s strategic manager Malcolm Wu.

“Some working in the industry are looking to upgrade their skills. University students who learn this thing during courses want to know what is happening out in the world,” said Lau.
