KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said yesterday she was ready to explain her meeting with self-styled Sulu princess Jacel H. Kiram to the Parliament Rights and Privileges Committee.

“I have parliamentary privilege. God willing, I will ensure there are briefing and explanation sessions as requested initially by (Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department) Datuk Seri Azalina (Othman Said), she told reporters at the lobby of Parliament here.

Azalina on Wednesday suggested that Nurul Izzah use the platform of the committee to defend herself over the meeting with Jacel, daughter of the late Jamalul Kiram III who was responsible for the Sulu militant attack on Sabah in 2013.

Nurul Izzah also said that she would give her statement to the police on the meeting at  4pm today, after which she would issue a statement on the matter as well as the prohibition on her entry into Sabah.

The Sabah legislative assembly yesterday approved a motion to ban Nurul Izzah and another PKR vice-president, Tian Chua, from entering the state following the controversial meeting with Jacel.

Jacel had uploaded four photographs of the Nov 9 meeting on her Facebook account, which drew the ire of various quarters in the country.

Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional strategic communication director Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan has welcomed the ban.

“Do not be angry with the Sabah government over the ban because what they did has hurt the people of Sabah,” he said. — Bernama
