KENINGAU: A 56-year-old local man allegedly shot his son to death at their village in Apin-Apin here last week.

Apparently the father shot his son with a homemade gun as he was angry with him for throwing a hoe in their yard, district police chief DSP Douglas Nyeging Taong said here yesterday.

He said the father vent his anger on his son by hitting him against the house pole after which he shot him in the incident that allegedly occurred on Nov 22 at 7.25pm.

Douglas said Koprol Mohamad Rizan Mean, who was on duty at the police headquarters operation room, received a phone call from the Keningau Hospital emergency ward that a man was suffering from gunshot wounds.

He said the victim suffered injuries to his body and the top edge of the left ribs.

“According to the doctor who treated the victim, there have been eight rounds of bullets still in the victim’s body. He suffered from extensive internal bleeding.

“An operation carried out only managed to extract one bullet before the victim was pronounced dead at 6.15pm on November 24 after receiving treatment at the hospital for three days,” he said.

The suspect had been remanded for four days to facilitate investigation, Douglas said.
