Sarawak hosts national-level HPPN Day this year

KUALA LUMPUR: The national-level Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen Day 2015 celebration in Kota Samarahan from Nov 27 to Dec 3 is set to the largest exhibition of agricultural products and agro-based industry.

The theme of the celebration is ‘Agrotechnology the Catalyst of Transformation’ which will be declared open by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Nov 28.

Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Datuk Seri Shabery Cheek said the celebration would be a carnival of sorts to be enjoyed by the people of Sarawak and other states.

“More than 400 showrooms and booths have been prepared in accordance to segments such as the public and private agencies, state exhibition pavilions, Ministry of Agriculture exhibition space, agriculture exhibition, agro-industrial exhibition, fisheries, veterinary, agricultural engineering and agro-bazaar.

“We have also invited various agencies from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah to participate because is a carnival that should be shared together,” he said.

Shabery added that this year’s event was not just about agricultural competition and performances, but also as a recognition and respect from the government to the farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen as well as entrepreneurs across the country for their contribution to the nation.

“It is a great platform to recognise the best achievement of farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen in the production of agricultural products and innovations. Thirteen award categories and one special award will be presented by the prime minister during the opening ceremony.”

“I would like to invite everyone in Sarawak in particular and also from other parts of the country to come and enjoy the exhibits and other performances at the Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen Day 2015.”

Various interesting activities are being scheduled during the celebration such as seminars, convention, mega aerobics, cooking competition and many more.

The Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen Day 2015 is organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry together with the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem will close the celebration on Dec 2.
