SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP) Rejang Park Service Committee chairman Chiew Hock Lee yesterday rebuked Pelawan assemblyman David Wong over the latter’s complaint on a stalled scavenging truck via Facebook.

Lee said blowing the issue out of proportion was the style of the opposition leaders.

“These opposition leaders will never appreciate the infrastructure upgrading works implemented by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC). Instead, they pick on small issues to exploit.

“Obviously, they are making use of small issues as bargaining chips to gain political mileage,” he said.

In his Facebook post regarding a scavenging truck that got stuck in a pothole in Nibong Road, Wong blamed SMC for not doing enough to improve the condition of the road.

Countering Wong, Chiew said SMC had invested millions of ringgit to improve and upgrade over 60 roads in the Pelawan constituency.

“In Rejang Park area, several roads were resurfaced over the past weeks. There was not a single word of appreciation from the opposition,” he said.

Chiew said an assemblyman should find ways to solve the problem when he or she spotted one, rather than complain openly.

“Take a picture of the pothole and show it to the council for remedial action,” he suggested.
