LIMBANG: There are individuals and groups whose loyalty to the country is questionable and are trying to cause havoc in the country.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said such irresponsible groups could threaten the peace of the nation.

He said the government had never restricted anybody from giving his/her opinion.

“However, democracy does not give any right to anyone to cause havoc and to threaten the unity in the nation,” he said at the launch of ‘Karnival Jiranku Keluarga’ at Kampung Pahlawan here yesterday.

His text speech was read by Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang.

Awang Tengah said havoc would only bring losses and cause the country’s economy to plummet.

Unity in the country was crucial to achieve the status of developed country by 2020.

“Without unity among the people, it will be impossible to live in a healthy and prosperous country. As Malaysians, we need to double our efforts and cooperate with each other regardless of race and religion to continue the success and peace of the country,” he said.

The carnival was organised by National Unity and Integration Department together with neighbourhood committees at Jalan Pandaruan.
