KOTA KINABALU: A fire destroyed three houses in Kampung Padas, Menggatal near here on Friday night.
State Fire and Rescue Service Department’s operation centre chief Mohd Affendy K Ramin said that the fire was believed to have started about 8.20pm.
A distress call was received at 8.31pm and 27 firemen from the Kota Kinabalu and Lintas stations were sent to the scene.
According to Mohd Affendy, the houses were gutted by the time the team arrived at the scene so the firemen concentrated their efforts on preventing the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
They managed to control the fire by 9pm, he said, adding that there was no report of injuries in the incident.
Meanwhile, a separate fire at Kampung Gusi Kuala Dua in Kinarut yesterday morning destroyed a house and two vehicles.
Mohd Affendy said the incident occurred about 10am and firemen from the fire stations in Penampang and Papar prevented the fire from causing more damage to a nearby house.
The roof of the house was singed by the heat from the fire next door, he said, adding that the relevant authorities were investigating the cause of the blaze and the losses incurred by the victims.
