Penang DAP convention marred by protest against Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP convention which started here today was marred by a peaceful protest from a group of about 20 men in front of a hotel in Bukit Jambul where the convention was being held.

The group, holding posters in support of Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow and gathered since 9am, want the Chief Minister’s post held by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, to be replaced by Chow.

The group which gathered for only about five minutes were holding posters that read “Chow Kon Yeow Chief Minister of Penang, We Want You” and “Lim Guan Eng Balik Melaka.”

The same group was believed to have gathered at the Kompleks Tun Razak (KOMTAR) yesterday afternoon to support Chow and oppose Lim’s leadership.

Meanwhile, pamphlets bearing a message “Lim Guan Eng do you still remember? March 8, 2008, Red Rock Hotel Penang. You robbed someone’s chief ministership, its okay, and we made an agreement and now you betrayed the agreement.”

However, Chow in his speech at the convention today, declared the state DAP’s support for Guan Eng leadership as the Chief Minister, a post he has held since 2008. –Bernama
