SARIKEI: United People’s Party (UPP) has identified a potential candidate whom it believes is capable to help Barisan Nasional wrest back Repok seat from DAP in the coming state election.

UPP president Dato Sri Wong Soo Koh who named UPP Sarikei branch chairman Chan Phan Chan as the person, said that it was based on several factors.

Speaking during the UPP Sarikei branch first anniversary dinner at the civic centre here last Saturday night, Wong singled out Chan’s excellent performance as Sarikei District Council (SDC) Chairman as the strongest point.

That was backed by his efficiency in leading UPP Sarikei branch which had emerged as a formidable political force despite just a year old, commended Wong who reiterated his confidence in Chan’s leadership qualities in his speech when officiating at the launching ceremony of Sarikei Fest last Saturday night.

Wong disclosed that he had discussed UPP’s winnable candidates with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and expressed confidence that their opinion was taken into consideration by the state BN chief.

“I hope my confidence in Chan will also be recognised by the top BN leadership,” Wong added.
