Plantation man slashed by nephew from out of the blue

KUCHING: A 63-year-old man claimed he was assaulted by his 30-year-old nephew in a surprise attack at his home on Sunday night.

The victim, who is the caretaker of a Sungai Buah durian plantation at Pasir Pandak in Santubong, was at home with his wife and son when the nephew intruded on their house there armed with a machete, according to a source.

The suspect then started to hack away at his uncle and the victim suffered injuries to his left arm and right hand when he raised them to defend himself.

The victim’s son immediately intervened to calm down the suspect, and notified police and called for an ambulance.

Santubong police went to apprehend the suspect and the victim was brought to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The reason for the intrusion and assault is unknown. The suspect was brought to the police station for further investigation.
