UPDATE: Three people – a girl, her mother and stepfather – were arrested last night (Nov 30) at Rejang Park, Sibu at 9pm for their alleged involvement in the assault which took place in Kuching.

KUCHING: Police are looking into an alleged assault case that took place at a shopping mall here on Sunday afternoon, Kuching district police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad said yesterday (Nov 30).

This statement came in response to a viral video depicting a group of men intimidating and assaulting two male youths said to be working at a store in the mall. Two videos posted on a Facebook group page immediately went viral, garnering hundreds of comments and views.

It is believed that the incident transpired after a colleague of the two young men – a girl from Sibu – had complained in tears to her father that she was being ‘bullied’ by them.

According to social media, her father sent a group of men from Sibu to teach the two youths a ‘lesson.’ However, Roslan could not verify this at press time as they were still probing the case.

The video also showed the group of intimidators forcing the youths to kneel in front of the girl and apologise to her.
