SIBU: The three persons linked to the assault and humiliation of two youths by a group of men in a shopping mall in Kuching on Sunday (Nov 29) were arrested in Sibu on Monday night.

Sibu deputy police chief Supt Martin Koo, when contacted this morning, confirmed the arrest as they helped their Kuching counterpart in the probe.

Koo identified the three detainees in Sibu as an 18-year-old girl, her mother aged 50 and her stepfather, 45.

He said they were arrested in a house in Rejang Park at 9pm yesterday.

He said the police were currently in the process of remanding them in court for investigation under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

“After the remand, the three are expected to be escorted to Kuching for the probe. A team of policemen is on the way to Sibu this morning for that.”

Before the assault and humiliation of the two youths on Sunday, it was learnt that they had ‘disturbed’ the 18-year-old.

The teenage girl then called her stepfather in Sibu, who then called a group of friends in Kuching “to teach the two youths” in the shopping mall.

A source said apart from the three arrested in Sibu, two more were also arrested in Kuching after they surrendered themselves to the police near midnight yesterday.

Two video clips of the assault and humiliation went viral in Facebook, showing two youths kneeling in front of a group of assailants being intimidated, shouted at, slapped, punched and kicked in the mall.
