KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) is undertaking various economic activities slated for Samarahan Division, specifically on catering to its growing population that has now reached more than 170,000.

According to DCCI secretary-general Libat Langub, there are now around 80 housing estates in the division, with another 20 underway in anticipation of the influx of people looking for more housing units with good facilities here.

“Another potential business opportunity is the setup of a 150-stall food court to be allocated among the Chinese, Malay and Dayak traders.

“This food court aims to cater for some 20,000 students from Unimas (Universiti Malaysia Sarawak) and UiTM (Universiti Teknologi Mara) Sarawak, both of which are located in Kota Samarahan. Of court, the eatery will also serve the local market,” he said in a statement released yesterday in conjunction with a courtesy call by the chamber on Samarahan Walikota Dato Peter Minos at Samarahan District Council (SDC).

Libat, on behald of DCCI, took the opportunity to congratulate Minos on his recent appointment, adding that the chamber would be looking forward to forging a meaningful relationship with SDC throughout Minos’ tenure as Walikota.

Libat also pointed out that Minos had expressed his hope of seeing more Dayak entrepreneurs work together and combine their resources towards participation in the development of this district.

“He (Minos) sees that now, there are many Dayaks from across the state who are keen to settle down not only in Kuching, but also in Kota Samarahan because of the facilities here,” he said.
