Silo saga: Chong discharged not amounting to acquittal

KUCHING: A Magistrates’ Court here yesterday ordered a discharge but not amounting to an acquittal (DNNA) on Stutong Indah Neighbourhood Watch acting chairman Chong Kok Khan of a criminal intimidation charge.

The court also exercised its discretion to be fair by ordering another DNNA on the operator of Silo Square, Lionel Tan, with the hope that both parties would keep peace and order in the future.

During the mention of the case on Monday, Chong refused to sign the bond to keep peace offered to him and Tan. The order to keep peace was provided for under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Tan agreed to sign the bond but Chong refused.

Chong was initially arrested for allegedly intimidating Tan and (Chong) was remanded for a day to facilitate police probe on the case and issues surrounding the premises. Subsequently Chong lodged a police report against Tan for allegedly intimidating him.

Silo Square is a decor gallery-cum-cafe and located at the residential area where Chong lives.
