KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces has begun mobilising its staff and assets to help flood victims, said Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

He said the Army had mobilised members of the 8th Brigade in Kelantan and Terengganu and from the 2nd Brigade in Perak to help the flood victims.

“The Army has also mobilised its Division 1 in Sarawak to help flood victims in the state, while the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is ready to mobilise its assets at any time,” he told reporters after launching the “Jiwa Murni” programme for flood relief, a joint project between the ministry and Media Prima Berhad, here yesterday.

Hishammuddin said RMAF assets would include a Nuri helicopter at the Butterworth Air Base for the north and central sectors of the peninsula, two EC725 aircraft at the Kuantan Air Base for the east and south sectors.

Meanwhile, a CN235 aircraft and a C130 aircraft from the Subang Air Base would be used for the whole peninsular, he said.

Hishammuddin said the Royal Malaysian Navy was also ready to mobilise 19 boats and two helicopters, a Super Lynx and a Fennec, which are now based at the RMN Base in Lumut, Perak.

The Jiwa Murni programme also includes the provision of 2,000 survival kits containing hygiene and medical products to be distributed to the flood victims. — Bernama
