KUCHING: Sarawak Sepak-Takraw Association (PSS) has called for more support to be given to the sport.

PSS president Dato Abang Khalid Tan Sri Abang Marzuki sees that as a vital step forward if Sarawak aims to be a sepak takraw powerhouse in the country.

The state team delivered a bronze and a silver at the 2010 and 2012 Sukma respectively.

“On our part, PSS needs thorough planning in determining the successful direction of this association. To achieve that, we need support from everyone including the ministers and officials here in the state,” Abang Khalid said.

PSS celebrated its Golden Jubilee (1965-2015) with a dinner at a local hotel here on Friday.

The event was officiated by Works Minister and PSS advisor Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, said he will do his best to give his recommendations to the state government to help PSS.

“With the fact that Sarawak being the biggest state in Malaysia, it is also making it for officials and players to move around if there are events or activities which needed to be done together such as meetings, gatherings and tournament.

“Some had to fork out a lot of money just for travelling and it is costly indeed,” he added.

Fadillah also presented a RM10,000 cheque from the state government to PSS officials.

Officials also presented him with the YB Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof challenge trophy for the tournament held at the State Sepak-takraw Stadium, Petra Jaya yesterday.

Nine men’s teams from Kuching, Samarahan, Betong and Sibu divisions and four women’s teams from Kuching and Samarahan divisions participated in the tournament.

Also present at the dinner were officials from the Malaysia Sepak Takraw Association and Ministry of Social Development.
