KUCHING: Sarawak’s muaythai fighter Kabilan Jelevan Thiyagarajan was pleasantly surprised when he received a cash reward yesterday.

This follows his victory at last weekend’s Dynamite NakSoo Asian Fight Tour tournament held in Sandakan, Sabah.

Siva Kumar G, patron of the Sarawak State Council of the Malaysian Hindu Sangham, presented a cheque for RM1,001 to Kabilan in a simple ceremony held at his ASIAPR office in Tabuan Jaya here.

Kabilan beat Penang’s Yusharmin Yusuff with a fourth round knock out in the 58kg pro bout.

Siva, who is also the patron of the Sarawak Kabaddi Association, said that he had been observing the success trail of Kabilan in the sport of muaythai.

He was optimistic that Kabilan would reach greater heights in the sport if given the proper encouragement and motivation.

“Kabilan has also become the pride of the Sarawak Indian community here,” added Siva, author of the recent authorised biography of Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Siva is also group managing director of ASIAPR and APR New Media. Kabilan is from the Kuching-based SS Fighters Club.
