KUCHING: The Sarawak Cricket Association (SCA) will intensify its development programme by organising more tournaments next year.

SCA secretary Gordon Chung said 2016 would be a very busy year for the association with the addition of three more tournaments to its calendar, bringing the total to five.

“Starting next year, we will be organising the U19, U16 and U14 competitions. We shall continue to organise the U12 tournament offering the Tun Ahmad Sarji challenge trophy and the senior tournament,” Gordon said during SCA annual dinner on Monday.

He said the U12 tournament will be held on a bigger scale with teams from Miri and Bintulu joining next year.

Gordon, also vice president of the Malaysian Cricket Association, said the hosting of the five tournaments will enable SCA to participate in more national tournaments.

He added that more tournaments would enable SCA to produce more young talents.

“It is only through the organising of local tournaments that we can help send players to higher level tournaments. Apart from that, we are also preparing our teams to take part in prestigious national championships such as the Malaysian Premier League, MCA T20, King’s Shield and Fast Track Innings Championship,” he said.
