KUCHING: AirAsia Bhd (AirAsia) had on Wednesday entered into a passenger charter service agreement with Thai AirAsia X Co. Ltd (TAAX).

In a filing to the stock exchange on Dec 23, the low cost carrier said AirAsia will engage TAAX to operate five round trip charter flights from Thailand’s Don Mueang International A port in Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur (DMK-KUL-DMK) on Dec 24, 25, 26, 31 and January 1, 2016.

The rationale for the transaction was to mitigate operational constraint in AirAsia during the year-end peak travel season.

The cost of the charter was US$45,000 per round trip inclusive of ground handling services and checked baggage charges, excluding costs of meal services on board.

AirAsia disclosed that the transaction will not have any material financial impact in the current financial year nor will it have any effect on the share capital and substantial shareholders’ shareholdings of AirAsia.

The company added it is also not expected to have material effect on the net assets per share, earnings per share and gearing of AirAsia for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2015.

The total amount transacted between AirAsia and the related parties and persons connected with them for the preceding 12 months was RM18.6 million.
