Tenom to launch state-level Kaamatan Festival

KOTA KINABALU: Tenom district has been selected as this year’s venue for the launch of the state-level Kaamatan Festival celebration on May 1.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, who is also the state-level Kaamatan Festival’s committee chairman, said that the event will take place at the Tenom district field.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman is expected to launch the event.

Pairin added that the theme for this year’s state-level Kaamatan Festival is “Pibabasan Om Piombolutan” which means “Peace and Friendship”.

“We have taken into consideration the environment surrounding us and we hope that the festival will help to foster unity and friendship and create an environment of peace and harmony,” he said after chairing the committee’s first meeting yesterday.

Fourteen committees, including several sub-committees, were formed to ensure the smooth running of the upcoming celebration, said Pairin who urged the private sector to support the event.

Pairin also disclosed that celebration in Kuala Penyu will be held on May 7; Tongod on May 12; Tambunan, Pitas and Putatan on May 14; Keningau, Kota Marudu, Membakut and Kota Belud on May 15; and Tuaran on May 18.

The Kota Kinabalu City Hall will be organising a three-day celebration of the event from May 19 to 21, while Nabawan will celebrate the Kaamatan Festival on May 21.
