Family of 15 in need of housing assistance

KUCHING: A family from Kpg Bunga Rampai, Jalan Batu Kitang, Bau complained that they had not received any response on their application for assistance from the State Welfare Department for Housing Project for the Hardcore Poor (PPRT).

According to Rokiah Madani, she had applied twice for PPRT assistance in 2012 and 2015 for her late father’s house which is reportedly in poor condition.

The issue was brought to light by Abdul Aziz Isa, special assistant to DAP state chairman Chong Chieng Jen and Petra Jaya DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) publicity secretary.

He said that the house was being occupied by Rokiah’s brother and sister together with their respective families, totalling 15 people living in the house which has only one bedroom, one bathroom and one kitchen.

The wooden floor and ceilings in the living room and kitchen are in need of repair.

The 15 family members living there are Abdullah Buntat (61), his wife Kamsiah Madani (52), their three children, Burhaniza (26), Norsiah (21) and Nurul Nazirah (16), their two son-in-laws Muhammad Syawal Elvin (23) and Mohammad Ashraf Drahman (20) and two grandchildren.

Others include Abdullah’s brother-in-law Rosli Madani (41), his wife Juliana Ahmad Kosnan (32), and their four children; Muhammad Hafiz (9), Muhammad Farid (7), Muhammad Emir Syafik (6) and Nur Aisya Sofia (3).

Rosli, Ashraf, Syawal and Burhaniza are the only ones who are working in the family and their total income comes up to less than RM3,000 a month.

Meanwhile, Rosli also asked for education welfare assistance to buy his four children school bags and uniforms.
