“Besides helping the poor and unemployed such as single mothers, housewives, people with disabilities (PWDs), the elderly and others, the programme is intended to reduce dependence on foreign labour,” she told reporters at a ceremony to hand over the Housekeeper Pilot Project appointment letter here, yesterday.

She said the initial target group of the project was 10,000 Social Welfare Department general assistance recipients, to help them generate income, nevertheless the project is also open to members of the public.

“We do not place an strict conditions on the recruitment and selection process as skills required are basic knowledge in house cleaning and physical ability to carry out the work assigned,” she said.

Ernie added that workers would also be provided with transport as the company would fetch them from home and send them to the customers’ homes.
