KUCHING: Deputy president of United People’s Party (UPP) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil assures that the party’s pick for Batu Kawa seat Liu Thian Leong can deliver the best possible services for the constituents.

Dr Jerip, who is also Assistant Minister for Public Health and Bengoh assemblyman, said he had known Liu long enough to make the assurance apart from having confidence in the ex-Pemanca to always put the interests of the community above all.

“Our UPP Batu Kawa branch chairman Liu has been working hard so that all those in Batu Kawa can rally behind the Barisan Nasional (BN) come the state election. Batu Kawa has been in the hands of the opposition for five years now. Many government allocations could not be channelled directly to Batu Kawa because of this. As such, Liu has taken steps to make sure the development of Batu Kawa is not left behind.

“This is why you all must come together to support not just the chief minister, who has done so much for Sarawakians, but also all BN candidates endorsed by the chief minister. We must support the candidate who is always helping the people.”

He made these remarks at a cooking competition ‘Maggi Cukup Rasa’ jointly organised by the Saberkas Batu Lintang branch and UPP Batu Kawa branch at the multi-purpose hall of Kampung Desa Wira Fasa 3 here yesterday.

Dr Jerip noted that though the state DAP had Impian Sarawak to make inroads into the rural areas, the opposition party would not go a very long way in the state.

He added it was nearly impossible for the DAP to take over the state government given that the opposition in Sarawak could not deny BN its two-thirds majority.

As such, he urged the Chinese community in Batu Kawa to join hands and give their own areas a chance to be further developed.

On the competition, Dr Jerip described it as a meaningful event which helped enhance closer rapport among residents in the village.

Meanwhile, Liu pledged to deliver ‘3D services’ to the people of Batu Kawa.

“This 3D is not three dimensional but Do, Dedicate and Deliver. We will do all we can, dedicate ourselves to serving the people and deliver quality services for all.”

He added that the UPP Batu Kawa branch had set out to make a difference.

“We have different approaches to deliver services to our people. We will be around not just during election times but round the year, as well as to be in every corner of Batu Kawa.”

Nineteen participants took part in the competition divided into two categories; namely Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera.

Each of them had to prepare three dishes – rice, chicken and long beans in any style. Their dishes were assessed by four judges.

It is understood that Kampung Desa Wira Fasa 3 has 192 Bumiputera households and 111 Chinese households. Among those present were UPP secretary-general George Lo, Saberkas Batu Lintang branch chairman Kapitan Patrick Tan and head of Kampung Desa Wira Fasa 3 Baie Aba.
