KUCHING: A Myanmar national is feared to have drowned after falling from an oil tanker while it was making its way towards the Senari area in Sejingkat here yesterday.

The victim has been identified via his passport as 30-year-old Kyaw Min Htet from Yangon.

A statement issued by the state Fire and Rescue Department said a distress call was received at 12.10am about a deckhand falling from the tanker as it was travelling along the Sarawak River.

Following the call, personnel from the Tabuan Jaya fire station were despatched to the scene to monitor the situation prior to launching a search-and-rescue operation to locate the victim.

The search continued as of 5pm yesterday with no sign of the foreign worker.
