RM3 million to upgrade Miri Indoor Stadium — Lee

MIRI: A sum of RM3 million has been allocated this year for upgrading of Miri Indoor Stadium which will be used in the upcoming Sukma XVIII this July.

Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin in disclosing this said Miri would host three sports event which are karate, sepak takraw and sailing.

“Upgrading works on the stadium will be carried out in February as it would be the main venue for karate and sepak takraw,” he said after officiating at the Zone B (Sarawak) Rakyat Football League 2015-2016 between Mukah and Miri here on Saturday.

As for sailing events, Lee said a jetty would be built soon at Luak Bay. On another note, Lee said more sports facilities would be built in the city in view of its growing population.

“It is timely that we upgrade our facilities and add more as the city is growing fast in population,” he added. On the closing match between Mukah and Miri of the Zone B (Sarawak) Rakyat Football League 2015-2016, Lee said Miri has qualified for the next round, apart from Kuching. “Both Miri and Kuching have been put under Zon Timur group with two teams each from Pahang, Terengganu, Sabah,” Lee said. —by Jenifer Laeng
