SIBU: In tandem with the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) transformation, the State Attorney- General Chambers have recruited more legal officers to meet the development challenges this year.

State Attorney-General Datu Abdul Razak Tready said his chambers hoped to upgrade the level of excellence and develop a fair and responsive legal service towards achieving the ultimate aim of the State to become a developed State in 2030.

“We are happy to report that the new Forests Ordinance 2015 is the latest addition to our Sarawak Main Series published under Chapter 71 which came into force in lst June, 2015,” he said in his speech at the opening of Legal Year 2016 of Sabah and Sarawak held at the Courthouse here yesterday.

Razak said the additional manpower could bring a new direction as regarded the administration and management of the forests in the state.

He said his chambers would continue with best efforts to drafting and amending the state laws in order to keep up with the ever-changing needs of the state and its people.

“We are proud to announce that our Chambers have successfully operated our Video Conferencing System throughout Sarawak which link up with the Technology Courts in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu and Limbang starting from Feb 1 last year.

“The implementation of this system has helped us to save time and costs, speeded up the hearing of cases throughout the State and enabled our officers to attend to all court cases at almost the same time at different venues,” he noted.

Through this Virtual Office System, Razak said the Chambers had won a state-level Award for the Best Key Performance Activity Project, in AKPANS 2015.

The Lawnet, which puts on line the post 1993 Main Series of State Legislation, through the chambers’ Website, has also been a success, he said.

He said the number of visitors has increased tremendously since its introduction in 2013.

“We are currently working on updating of the Land Code (Cap. B1), and hopefully to complete it this year,” he added.
