Government invited community to tackle river trash

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Banjarmasin City Government invites its people to take their role in tackling the garbage that surrounded the Martapura River, AntaranewsKalsel reported.

Mayor Ibnu Sina after touring to traditional markets and reviewing the problems of the river on Monday said that currently broom ship are commonly used to clean the river was under repair.

“One way to immediately release the river from heap of trash at the moment is to mobilize people and NGO-communities in the city to help get rid of this garbage,” he said.

Ibnu said the garbage that is now piling up has been very disturbing river transportation system. River Surface now like garbage field.

“It happens almost every year, and we are late to anticipate. Hopefully, this condition is not repeated in the years to come,” he said.

Transportation on the Martapura River in the last two days paralyzed due to overwhelming garbage, especially under the Pasar Lama Bridge and Dewi Bridge. None of the ships could cross the river.
