LABUAN: Labuan’s landscape is poised to change within the next four years with the expected completion of six large scale integrated developments.

The massive development projects jointly undertaken by the Labuan Corporation (LC) and private developers are expected to take off the ground middle of this year.

LC chief executive officer Datuk Nadzri Osman said the projects are the development of commercial complex and hotel at the old market building site, business complex with hypermarket next to Labuan Market Sentral, upgrading and construction of Hotel Aifa’s new block and branded items stores at Labuan public marina.

Others are the water park development project opposite Tiara Hotel and the waterfront esplanade near the fisheries jetty areas in downtown Labuan.

“These major mixed use developments will certainly be a boon to the people here and it is set to change the development landscape of the duty-free-island here,” he told a press conference in announcing the highlights of the Federal

Territory Day here yesterday.

Nadzri also said the government has allocated RM200 million under the 11th Malaysia Plan for the construction of the new ro-ro ferry terminal, which is scheduled for completion in the next two years.

He said the projects to be built between the area at Tanjung Aru and Kerupang would commence next year involving large scale reclamation and construction works for ferry landing areas.

“With the construction of the new ferry terminal, we can resolve the long standing issue of traffic congestion each time the ferry schedule commences,” he said.

He said the RM12 million food court with 50 kiosks at Jalan Tg Purun which was built under the 10th Malaysia Plan was near completion.

The public recreation park near the Mawilla Beach had also been completed and benefited the people as well as a new tourist attraction. – Bernama
