Thousands expected to attend FT day in Labuan

LABUAN: Exciting people and sports events with good weather are set to draw at least more than 20,000 people from all walks of life

for the month-long 12th Federal Territory Day beginning next week.

Labuan Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Nadzri Osman said large crowds are expected to flock to the duty-free island with improved facilities and programs.

“Visits of thousands of people from the duty-free island itself, from the mainland of Sabah and Sarawak and neighboring Brunei for the month-long festival beginning Feb 1 will transform the island into a sea of humanity. We expect the flow of visitors will increase,” he said at a press conference in announcing the highlights of the Federal Territory Day (FT Day) here yesterday.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to officially launch the RM26 million Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) and FT Day on Feb 6.

“For this event, we expect more than 10,000 people will throng the venue to witness the two major events,” he said.

Nadzri said a total of 27 villages would be working together to prepare traditional delicacy in the Kenduri 1Wilayah at the Labuan Market Sentral on the same day.

“This will be another attraction to lure more visitors to come into the island. We also have listed sports event and sea sports festival like boat tug of war, futsal, fishing competition and FT Day Run with participants from Sabah and Brunei,” he said.

Nadzri said local artistes including Amy Search and Dadali Band from Indonesia have also been invited to perform during the FT Day launching. – Bernama
