KUCHING: The lion dance troupes of Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak will continue with the tradition of visiting shops and households during the Chinese New Year to bring luck and prosperity to all.

Its chairman and grandmaster Dato Sri Dr Song Swee Hee, in opening their Golden Lion Dance Festival at Crown Tower last Sunday night, hoped the Year of the Fire Monkey will be a better year as the monkey is considered an auspicious animal by the Chinese.

He later performed the symbolic prosperity lion’s eye-dotting ceremony on a pair on prosperity lions which were specially ordered from China.

Among those present were the federation’s honorary president Tan Poh Seng and vice president Wong Ming Kong.

More than three hundred people, including invited guests, trainees, parents and members of the public, who turned up for the event, were treated to energetic lion dance performances.

The night’s programme also included traditional Chinese dances and Shaolin kung-fu performances.
