KUCHING: Soldiers foiled an attempt to smuggle stolen vehicles across the Sarawak-Kalimantan border following the recovery of two four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicles.
The incident occurred around 1pm on Tuesday when members of Company B from Battalion 11 of the Royal Malay Regiment, led by Major Mohd Shahlizal Mohd Razali, spotted a white Isuzu 4WD vehicle with no licence plate during a routine patrol along the border near Serikin.
The team immediately searched the area and soon found another 4WD vehicle – a black Mitsubishi Pajero – along a dirt path about 500 metres away.
A man standing near the Pajero fled when he spotted the soldiers.
Both vehicles have been confirmed as reported stolen in Kuching – one in Satok this year and the other in Tabuan Jaya last year.
Both vehicles have been brought to Bau District police headquarters.
